How a song changed a barrio.

San Juan- Sometimes the small detour that very few know about becomes a huge phenomenon worldwide. "Despacito", the international song sensation by puertorrican singers Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee has done that to this humble and picturesque barrio called La Perla in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. La Perla it's always been the heart of Old San Juan where you can really see the local culture, resilience and spirit of its people. Now there are tours to take throngs of visitors where the video for the famous song was filmed. Freshly painted by a community project in vivid colors, La Perla still is the same to us: the barrio by the northern skirt of Old San Juan, kissed by the sea, where the soul of the old city lives. If you are around, go see this amazing place, where people have fought for decades to stay in their humble homes, located, without a doubt, in the best real estate spot in San Juan. Afterwards, go enjoy live music and public dancing at El Callejón de la Tanca, just across the Norzagaray street from La Perla and have a killer mojito or two.

Happy small detours!
