Japan- The Tsukiji Market its unavoidable if you visit Tokyo, and for good reason. It is the largest wholesale fish market in the planet. The Tuna Auction in Tsukiji Fish Market, for example, has been operating for 20 generations. It's an unforgettable experience to see all this crazy action going on. The outer market to the west of Harumidori has numerous small shops and stalls with everything on sale from sea urchin to whale meat (I have to report I tried both). I am very grateful that I hired an older gentleman as a local private guide to enjoy this. Otherwise there is so much information and local culture I would have missed. The best part is that, afterwards, you will forget everything you thought you knew about fish, sushi and sashimi. I almost cried with pleasure when I was taken to a hole in the wall restaurant and served the most exquisite, fresh and tasty sushi ever. In the table next to me, four giggling older ladies dressed in full japanese traditional kimonos where having a blast in her ladies day out. I could't stop looking and them and smiling.
